Vampire Knight Season One

I finished it in a few days. Initially, it was just 2 episodes per day but after 2 days, I think I finished it in one go because I was lazy to do other stuff. Lazy me!

So, I watched this anime after promising Wan Jun I would watch it. Being not really a hardcore anime fan, by that I mean I don't watch animes every day and follow up after I finished with one. Rather, I'm the selective type who, would only watch after I choose to watch it. The reason for my choice would most probably be: It fits my type, recommended by a fellow fan of it/anime friends, short episodes (why I have yet to watch Bleach/Naruto or any long winded ones) until now. The longest I ever watched was Kyou Kara Maou season 1&2(78 ep). Okla, Saiyuki was longer, if you count from Gensomaden(50 ep) to Reload (25 ep) and Gunlock (25 ep).

Basically, it's about vampires. It's as obvious as the title. So, we have the main leads, Kuran Kaname, Yuuki Cross and Kiryuu Zero. The anime drawings are superb and bear a lot of resemblance to the Ouran High School Host Club characters. I'm guessing they're from the same animation studio or something but I was too lazy to check out. Suffice to say, this anime is interesting but it did not capture me. I didn't exactly took a liking/preference to any of the guys!!! To think that it's a bishie show as well....

Horrible picture, unclear even but I'm too lazy to scout for more brilliant ones. See what I mean when I said they don't capture me? The bishonens probably ain't my type. In terms of looks of course. Character wise, they appeal but do not attract me.

Yuuki Cross. Her name reminds me of Yuki Sohma from Fruits Basket. The heroine of the anime, she resembles Fujioka Haruhi from Ouran HSHC, except with longer hair and a more amiable demeanour. She has the special attention from Kaname senpai, whom she clearly admires and adores. She was saved by him from a scary vampire when she was five so she looked up to him as her saviour. However, she seems to show great care and concern for her prefect friend, Zero as well. Looks like a love triangle is there although it isn't revealed explicitly. Just subtle hints here and there.

Kuran Kaname. The leader of the vampires in Cross Academy, the pureblood. He has the enigma and charisma of a leader. He can be gentle and caring (when towards Yuuki) or stern and administrative (when towards Hanabusa who always seem to break the rules!) or, sly and deceptive (the Hiou Shizuka case). To top it all, he's the MAN! He can be jealous too, when Yuuki willingly allows Zero to suck her blood but also loving (he lets Zero live because of Yuuki). Definitely an interesting guy.

Kiryuu Zero. Can I say the black sheep of the anime? His eyeballs are purple, woo (so are Sanzo's) His background and past are revealed and so I can sympathize with him. Bitten by a pureblood vampire, he unfortunately turns into one himself. Being born as a vampire hunter, that makes him the hunter and the target himself! He is definitely the hot one (Aki was madly in love with him at that time but I was blur). Yet, I wasn't tempted.

The tension between the 3 characters reminds me somewhat of the tension between Edward, Bella and Jacob in Twilight. Edward's Kaname!

Perhaps my favourite character of the anime is this fellow above! I don't really know his name, but he's the Chairman of the Cross Academy, self proclaimed Yuuki's father. He's the guy with mixed personality. He can be ridiculously hilarious or serious, depending on the circumstances. A doting father, his rejected fatherly scenes are somewhat funny.

Perhaps another aspect which I find interesting is the theme songs. The ending is somewhat...I don't have the vocab to describe it. It's haunting? Hi, Miss Alice...still you do not answer...

Nothing more to say. I'm going to watch Vampire Knight Guilty, season two next. What keeps me from watching this anime is the plot, which I feel is the driving force which keeps this anime interesting.
